Links to 26 Daily Deal Social Buying Sites

It doesn’t take much technology or start up costs to get a daily deal site going. I am not sure who is going to be the winner or losers in this space but right now the big players are LivingSocial.com and Groupon, but there are many other second tier players that appear to be getting many similar or better deals as the most well known. There is also a growing group of daily deal aggregation sites including Yipit and DealSurf which follow many of the daily deal sites and become a one-stop platform for following deals in your city.

While compiling this list I noticed two things:

1) The deals are getting less interesting and the market gets saturated.
2) The same merchants are appearing on multiple sites, therefore exclusivity is going to become more important if sites are going to survive.

The list is long and I didn’t test out many of the new sites because I am still trying to use up old deals that I have already purchased, so I welcome comments on the daily deal sites and any additions that I might have missed.

Dealgator Update: 11-03-2010
A new aggregator that contacted me. I looked at some of the deals and they are covering some of the second tier sites as well as the major ones in most major cities. It has very useful filtering capabilities and a well thought out interface. f you like complete coverage of the daily deal sites, this is one that you might want to favorite.

DealSurf
DealSurf is a daily deal aggregator that includes group buying sites such as Living Social, Groupon, KGBDeals, Trippr DealOn, etc. You can receive deals by email or go online and use their search facility that has numerous filters to help you get to the deal you are looking for including: pricing, locality, category, rating, and discount.

Yipit

A huge daily deal aggregator  that services Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Diego and San Francisco. They collect the daily deals from Groupon, LivingSocial, Tippr and they claim 130 others (are there really that many?).

3oclockclub.com
This appears to be a new daily deal site which is focused on Chicago and Las Vegas.

8coupons.com
8coupons is an amalgamation of daily deals and coupons that are available in a limited number of cities as well as online sites. There seems to be quite a number of coupons to choose from.

8moms.com
This site is not up and running yet but you can sign up now if you wish. Apparently, it will be focusing on women and moms with a lineup consisting of “spa services, hot restaurants, hip jewelry, and more.”

AtCost
The idea behind AtCost is the price goes lower as more people participate and you will get even a greater discount the more you share the deal on other social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. They may be aggregating from Groupon, LivingSocial, and MyCityDeals since all of these sites appear in the title of their homepage, but no specific reference is made.

BuyWithMe
Buywithme almost sounds like a hawker begging someone to buy with them as opposed to one of the many others in this quickly growing and very crowded daily deal space. There has to be a certain number of buyers for a deal to take place (very similar to Woot.com) and you get some bonus money if you refer a friend to the site. This is one of the more off-mentioned sites. I am not sure whether it is because they are popular or just have better marketing. In any case, they made my list.

TheCapitalDish.com
Any online site with a good mailing list can get into the Daily Deal game.CapitalDish is run by the Washington Post and offers deals on restaurants in the Washington D.C. area. A great site to know about the next time you are attending a protest march in D.C.

Coupons.com
Besides a boat load of coupons for national brand merchandise, Coupons.com is now offering daily deals for merchants in specific localities. Look in the upper right hand corner of the site and click on Daily Deals if you want to sign up.

DailyDealster
Couldn’t find out to much about this site but I did notice that they had several deals when I visited the DealSurf aggregator site.

DealFind
DealFind seems to be rather quiet. I couldn’t find many deals. Maybe they are in cities that I didn’t search but the FAQ doesn’t provide much information. It is apparently an offshoot of another restaurant web site, MenuPalace, and they are probably trying to leverage the email list that they already have compiled.

DealOn
DealOn is another site that begins each deal with a starting price and lowers the price as more people join in. Everyone pays the same price at the end of the day.

Groupon
Groupon is probably one of the largest and best known of the daily deal sites. LivingSocial is the other big gun. But with so many other daily deal sites more attention may now begin to go to the aggregation sites like Yipit. Groupon allows members to discuss deals and merchants and lately some of the feedback has not been that good. It seems that the deals are overloading the merchants and the merchants don’t seem to mind since they get the money up front while not having to deliver services for many months.

GoodNews.com
The marketing pitch of GoodNews is that you are helping a good cause within your community while you are buying up a storm. They will donate a portion of the profits from each deal to a cause. There is a list of participating organizations on the site. Deals are organized by product categories including: restaurants and pubs, spas, fitness centres and tour companies. Deals normally last one or two days and a minimum number of purchases is required in order for the deal to go through.

HomeRun
As best as I can tell, this site seems to focus in on San Francisco though you can sign up for other cities. They have multiple deals each day but what they call a Daily Steal once a day. An Avalanche is when the prices drop as more people buy. If you have more information on this site, let me known.

Jasmere
Jasmere seeks out lesser-known specialty retailers that they believe deserve national attention. They have shoppers in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, DC- that they claim test out every product they feature. Expect items like jewelry and other high end merchandise on their daily deal list.

kgbDeals
With an improbable name, KGBDeals has grown quite rapidly and has deals for many cities in the U.S. The deals seem to be the standard deals for spa treatments, training facilities, and restaurants. I believe that they are covered by the aggregation sites that I have linked to above.

LivingSocial.com
LivingSocial is one of the original and largest of the daily deal sites. I subscribe to them and lately the deals have not been as good as the original deals though there is a good one once in a while. Like Groupon, they are suffering from a saturation of the marketplace and it is tougher to come up with the great deals that once were there.

OpenTable.com
OpenTable is primarily a restaurant reservation site but is now morphing into other businesses such as restaurant daily deals. I get some pretty good deals in my email from them.

SocialBuy
SocialBuy has a presence in most of the major cities in the U.S. They are more of a second tier player which is giving out reward points to increase membership and activity. They use the model that requires a certain minimum number of purchases for a deal before it goes into effect.

SocialSteals
SocialSteals is focusing on large convention and tourist cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Houston, and Long Island. There is a 50% bonus on deals when you bring in friends.

Tippr
Tippr seems to be an up and coming site which is covering Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC. They have a discussion forum and claim that they shop at every merchant that is featured. You can expect multiple deals a day from this site which seems to be the direction of the industry. They also claim to have certain technology patents but for the life of me, in this crowded space with such simple technology requirements (a mailing list?), I cannot imagine what the patents might be.

VillageVines
VillageVines is a very popular New York City restaurant site. The deal is very simple. You pay a $10 reservation fee and you get a discount on your entire food bill which is typically 30%. This must be a great business because as we all know, New Yorkers love to eat.

WowWhatSavings
A daily deal site that covers many cities. I noticed that I’ve seen the same deals elsewhere so it seems like merchants (particularly restaurants) are learning how to propagate their deals across multiple sites. This should be an interesting trend.

Youvegottagetit
One of the longer domain names that I ran across. They seem to have a few deals but hopefully they are covered by aggregation sites so you don’t have to keep coming back to check on new deals. Or, you can always sign up.

Zozi
Zozi ends our list. They cover the major cities and seem to have many of the deals I have seen on other sites. I think the sites are using each other to find new deals.
