10 Rules for Link Building

John Chow published an interesting article on link building.  Briefly summarized, the rules are:

1. No comment spamming
2. Be judicious with article marketing and guest blogging.
3. Don’t spam forums with thousands of profiles
4. Slowly build your social bookmarking presence
5. Limit your directory budget to high quality directories
6. Don’t be too concerned with page rank. Concentrate on views and SERP (search engine results page).
7. Don’t spam for reciprocal links.
8. Avoid link farms.
9. Change your anchor text on different sites.
10. Remember to use deep links within directories for specialized pages on your site.
