John Chow published an interesting article on link building. Briefly summarized, the rules are:
- No comment spamming
- Be judicious with article marketing and guest blogging.
- Don’t spam forums with thousands of profiles
- Slowly build your social bookmarking presence
- Limit your directory budget to high quality directories
- Don’t be too concerned with page rank. Concentrate on views and SERP (search engine results page).
- Don’t spam for reciprocal links.
- Avoid link farms.
- Change your anchor text on different sites.
- Remember to use deep links within directories for specialized pages on your site.
All in all a good set of reminders when trying to build links to your site.
